How the calculation works
Base volume is length × width × base depth. Convert centimetres to metres, then apply the selected allowance.
Worked example
A 5 m × 4 m area with a 10 cm base needs 2.0 m³ before allowance. At 10% allowance, the planning quantity is about 2.2 m³.
Site note: Required base thickness depends on soil, drainage, loading and the paving system. This calculator estimates material quantity; it does not specify a suitable pavement design.
Common mistakes
- Using the paver thickness instead of the base thickness.
- Ignoring low spots that require extra fill.
- Assuming one base depth suits every site.
FAQ
Does this calculate bedding sand too?
No. Bedding sand and jointing materials should be estimated separately.
