How the calculation works
Calculate lawn area first. Then multiply area ÷ 100 by the seed rate in kilograms per 100 m². The rate should come from the product label or supplier guidance for your grass type and use.
Worked example
A 500 m² lawn at 2 kg per 100 m² requires about 10 kg of seed.
Important: Seeding rates vary substantially between grass species, new lawns and overseeding. The supplier's recommended rate should take priority over a generic calculator setting.
Common mistakes
- Using the wrong seeding rate for the grass species.
- Confusing kg per 100 m² with kg per m².
- Ignoring whether the project is new seeding or overseeding.
FAQ
Is the result a guarantee?
No. Germination and establishment depend on seed, soil preparation, moisture, temperature and site conditions.
